A volunteer Support Program began at Gympie State High School in 2011 and expanded to this day with more volunteers and students involved. The original aim of the program was to improve reading and comprehension skills in Year 9 students. The program has expanded to include classroom support and mentoring as well, with some Year 8 students also becoming involved.
Approximately twenty volunteers, ranging in age from twenty to over eighty, are keen to support students assigned to them in 2016. This program has been beneficial to both students and volunteers, who have great skills to share. Teachers also appreciate the support in the classroom and the improved student skills and confidence resulting from the volunteer input.
A massive thank you must go to our valued volunteers,
who have offered their time and skills to assist students and staff at Gympie
State High School. The Volunteer Support Program has been operating at the
school for seven years. Participants work with individual students, assist in
the classroom, create resources and offer special skills such as flower
arranging for special events.
If you know anyone with an hour or two to spare, and who
would like to be involved in the school, contact Jenny Kachel on 54898354 or

Volunteer Blue Card (working with children) is a requirement.
